State Support for Foot-and-Mouth Disease, says Government Spokesperson

Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, emphasized the state's commitment to full financial support for those affected by foot-and-mouth disease. He also highlighted the need for strict implementation of European protocols to limit the spread of the disease, following a meeting at the Presidential Palace.

The President of the New Agricultural Movement, Takis Christodoulou, called on farmers to avoid gatherings due to the risk of the virus spreading.

The President of the Pig Farmers, Petros Kailas, expressed the difficulty of the situation for the sector and appealed for consideration of closing the checkpoints.

European Commissioner, Oliver Varhelyi, rejected the request to end the culling of animals, stressing that European rules require the culling of all animals on infected farms. He assured, however, that the EU will compensate the affected farmers.
