State Surplus of €551.2 Million in First Five Months of 2025

The General Government recorded a surplus of €551.2 million, corresponding to 1.6% of GDP, for the period January–May 2025, according to preliminary fiscal data from the Statistical Service. This result is slightly increased compared to the surplus of €542.6 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.

Total government revenue increased by 5.6%, reaching €5,901.8 million, while total expenditure increased by 6% to €5,350.6 million.

Significant increases were seen in revenue from:

• Income and wealth taxation: €1,373.0 million (+11.1%)
• Social contributions: €1,968.5 million (+8.8%)
