Criticism over Inaction and Power Cuts in Cyprus

Criticism is mounting regarding inaction and inadequacy in the energy sector in Cyprus, following recent power cuts due to increased demand. While the government promotes its actions to ensure sufficiency and reduce electricity costs, criticism focuses on what should have been done.
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, Kyriakos Chatzigiannis, denounced a non-existent plan, arguing that there is inadequacy and incompetence in political and technical handling. Mr. Chatzigiannis referred to the undermining of investments, accusing the Minister of serving the guilds of the EAC staff, hindering changes in the system.
The Association of Licensed Electrical Contractors of Cyprus expressed concerns about the cost of voltage disturbances due to power cuts, highlighting the risks to electrical equipment and safety.
These issues are expected to be discussed in the competent parliamentary committee after the summer break.
