The cruise industry contributed €64.1 billion to the European economy in 2024, supporting 445,000 jobs, according to CLIA data.

Of this total, €28 billion directly contributed to the European GDP. Direct expenditures related to cruising amounted to €31 billion, with €14 billion going to European suppliers and €10 billion to shipbuilding activities.

CLIA's Executive Chairman and CEO, Bud Darr, emphasized that cruise tourism is an integral part of the European maritime economy. Referring to "cruise fees," he noted that their acceptance depends on how the revenues are used, with fees linked to specific services or infrastructure projects being more acceptable.

CLIA's Executive Director for Europe, Nikos Mertzanidis, highlighted the significant economic contribution of cruising, especially for island and coastal regions.

The overall economic contribution increased by 16% compared to 2023.
