Cyprus Hotels Show Payslip and Avert Strike

The hotel industry in Cyprus faces potential strikes during the summer season. However, there is hope for avoiding strike action, according to an announcement by ΣΥΞΚΑ ΠΕΟ and ΟΥΞΕΚΑ ΣΕΚ following a joint session.
The unions acknowledge a shift from some hoteliers towards their positions, but emphasize that the decision to strike remains in effect. Some hotel groups have shown a positive response to collective agreements, but mediations by the Department of Labour Relations are still pending.
The Ministry of Labour has expressed its readiness to mediate to resolve the disputes. The decision to strike will be made after the July salaries are paid to the employees. Strikes will only take place in hotels that do not implement the collective agreements.
Approximately 10,000 employees, 1/5 of the total in the sector, are affected by these decisions, and approximately 1/3 of the hotels are expected to be affected by strikes if the unions proceed with their announcements.
