Cyprus: Hybrid Car Sales Surge in 2025

Cypriot drivers are increasingly turning to hybrid cars, according to data from the Statistical Service for the first seven months of 2025. Hybrids have increased in market share, while gasoline and diesel cars have decreased.
Specifically, car registrations increased by 1.1%, reaching 31,200. Passenger saloon car registrations reached 24,158, with 60% being used cars. Rental cars showed an increase of 32.9%, reaching 3,581 registrations.
The share of gasoline cars decreased to 43.3% and diesel cars to 8.5%. Conversely, the share of electric cars increased to 4.8% and hybrids to 43.3%.
Despite plans to subsidize electric vehicles, Cypriots seem to prefer hybrids due to the high cost of electricity and limited charging infrastructure.
