Cyprus: 2.1% Increase in Public Sector Employment

Employment in the broader public sector in Cyprus increased by 2.1% in the second quarter of 2025, reaching 77,314 individuals. According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, this represents an increase of 1,600 employees compared to the same period in 2024.

The General Government employed 72,275 people, while a significant increase was recorded in Local Authorities (+28.2% or 1,295 people) due to the operation of the District Self-Government Organizations since July 2024.

Employment in the Central Government increased by 969 people (1.5%), while a decrease of 11.6% was recorded in Government-controlled Companies and Businesses.

Compared to the first quarter of 2025, employment in the broader public sector increased by 280 people (+0.4%).
