Cyprus: Economic Sentiment Slows Amid External Uncertainties
Share on:

Cyprus' Composite Leading Economic Index (CLEI) recorded an annual increase of 2.3% in June 2025, according to the Centre for Economic Research (CEnR) of the University of Cyprus. This increase is lower than the increases in May (2.6%) and April (3.1%).

The slowdown is attributed to the weakening of the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) in Cyprus and the Eurozone, as well as the decrease in temperature-adjusted electricity production. Positive contributions came from tourist arrivals, property sales, transactions with Cypriot credit cards, retail sales volume, and the decrease in the price of Brent oil.

The CEnR points out that the moderation in the growth rate reflects increasing uncertainties in the external environment, mainly due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
