Cyprus: Third in EU for Higher Education Completion – Over 60% Graduate

Cyprus ranks third in the EU for the completion rate of tertiary education, with 60.1% in 2024, according to Eurostat data. Ireland (65.2%) and Luxembourg (63.8%) rank first and second, respectively.

This rate measures the percentage of the population aged 25-34 who have completed higher education and is an indicator for the EU's 4th Sustainable Development Goal regarding quality education.

At the EU level, the completion rate reached 44.1% in 2024, up from 39.6% in 2019, indicating that the EU is on track to achieve its target of 45% by 2030.

The lowest rates were recorded in Romania (23.2%), Italy (31.6%), and Hungary (32.3%).

There was a significant gender gap, with women recording 49.8% and men 38.6%. The largest gap was observed in Slovenia, Latvia, Estonia, and Croatia.
