Cyprus: Lowest Rate of Unmet Medical Needs in the EU in 2024

Cyprus recorded the lowest rate in the EU for unmet medical needs in 2024, according to Eurostat data. The percentage of individuals aged 16 and over reporting unmet needs for medical examination or treatment in Cyprus was just 0.2%, compared to the EU average of 3.8%.

In contrast, Greece had the highest rate of unmet medical needs in the EU, reaching 13.4%. Across the EU, the main reasons for unmet healthcare needs were waiting lists and high costs.

Regarding dental care, the rate of unmet needs in Cyprus was 2.5%, while the EU average was 4.6%. The high cost was the most common reason for unmet dental care needs in 23 out of the 27 EU countries.

In Cyprus, high costs were also the most frequent reason for unmet needs in both medical and dental care.
