Cyprus: High Number of Overtime Workers in the EU

According to Eurostat data for 2024, 10% of workers in Cyprus (aged 20-64) work more than 49 hours per week in their primary job. This translates to approximately 10 hours of work per day, on a five-day basis.
Greece holds the first position in the EU with 12.4%, while Cyprus follows in second place. The lowest rates were recorded in Bulgaria (0.4%), Latvia (1%), and Lithuania (1.4%). The EU average is 6.6%.
Workers in the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sectors, as well as managers, work the most hours, with 26.2% and 21.1% respectively exceeding 49 hours per week. The percentage of self-employed individuals working long hours is 27.5%, while that of salaried employees is 3.4%.
