Government: Cost of Living Allowance for All, Scaled for Low Earners

The Government is promoting the extension of the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) to all employees, including those in the private sector, with an emphasis on low earners. The Minister of Labor, Yannis Panagiotou, informed social partners about the four pillars of the government's position.

The pillars include extending COLA to all, a scaled grant emphasizing low earners, introducing safeguards for the economy's competitiveness, and establishing criteria to avoid inflationary feedback.

The unions SEK, PEO, PASYDY, and DEOK issued an announcement, calling the proposal for universal COLA positive, but noted that the employers' side rejected it. Therefore, they called on workers to participate in the strike mobilizations on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
