M. Panagiotou: Direct payments are key to supporting farmers

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panagiotou, stated that direct payments are a key tool for supporting farmers.

According to the Minister, the discussion on direct payments was one of the most important items on the agenda of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council in Brussels.

Ms. Panagiotou stressed that direct payments are necessary to support social cohesion in rural areas, food production and food security. Cyprus is seeking adequate funding in the Common Agricultural Policy after 2027 to support farmers.

In addition, the Minister highlighted the need for flexibility for member states to adapt their solutions and plans to the needs of farmers, ensuring that no farmer is left behind.
