Chios Mastiha: €20 Million Revenue for Producers

The Chios Mastiha Growers Association (EMX) announced that €20 million will be paid to mastiha producers this year, significantly boosting the local economy.
Giorgos Toumpos, president of EMX, stated that the payment will be made within one month of invoicing. EMX, with 4,500 members, of which 1,700 are active producers, exclusively manages natural mastiha in Greece and abroad.
Mastiha production has increased significantly in recent years, reaching 213 tons in 2021, with a target of reaching 250-300 tons. 80% of the production is exported to 55 countries.
EMX has privately owned facilities and is active in the production and marketing of mastiha products, and has also established subsidiaries such as Mediterra S.A. and Mastiha Damla Sakiz.
The "cultivation of Chios mastiha" has been recognized as a cultural asset by UNESCO, while mastiha has been designated as a traditional medicine by the EMA.
