Can Caviar Boost McDonald's Sales?

McDonald's tested a unique marketing approach for Valentine's Day, offering free caviar kits paired with McNuggets gift cards. The promotion, in collaboration with Paramount Caviar, quickly sold out, causing a temporary website outage.
The kits contained 250 grams of “McNugget Caviar,” crème fraîche, a caviar spoon, and a $25 gift card. McDonald's stated the idea stemmed from customers' trend of experimenting with various dips and toppings for their chicken nuggets, as Rihanna did in a TikTok video.
This move comes as McDonald's seeks to increase its market share, following the example of previous successful campaigns, such as its collaboration with the movie “Minecraft.” Chicken sales have now reached the same level as beef sales in the chain's restaurants.
McDonald's quarterly earnings showed a 1% increase in global sales for the first nine months of the year, while sales at US stores increased by 2.4% in the third quarter.
