The Council of Ministers has approved support measures for citizens whose vehicle roadworthiness certificate (MOT) has been cancelled due to the non-replacement of Takata airbags, despite having scheduled an appointment for the replacement.

The decision aims to assist citizens affected by delays in the delivery of spare parts. As of October 31, 2025, roadworthiness certificates have been suspended for 10,782 vehicles, while 4,327 appointments have been scheduled for replacement by the end of January 2026.

The support measures include:

  1. Free public transport tickets for vehicle owners who have scheduled an appointment by the end of January 2026, provided their vehicle is immobilized and they do not have another vehicle.
  2. One-time financial support of €100 per week for owners belonging to the beneficiaries of the Guaranteed Minimum Income (ΕΕΕ), low-income pensioners, single parents, and large families, who have scheduled an appointment by the end of January 2026.
  3. One-time financial support of €100 per week for owners of vehicles for people with disabilities who have scheduled an appointment by the end of January 2026, provided their vehicle is immobilized and they do not have another vehicle.

Support will be provided upon application to the Department of Road Transport, after verification that the conditions are met.
