Beer remains a popular beverage in Europe, with production on the rise, especially for alcohol-free versions. According to Eurostat data, European Union countries produced a total of 34.7 billion liters of beer in 2024.

Specifically, 32.7 billion liters of beer had an alcohol content above 0.5%, while 2 billion liters had an alcohol content below 0.5% or none at all. Compared to 2023, beer production with an alcohol content above 0.5% increased by 0.6%, while the production of low or zero alcohol beer increased by 11.1%.

Germany remains the top beer producer with an alcohol content above 0.5%, producing 7.2 billion liters (22.2% of total EU production). It is followed by Spain with 4.0 billion liters and Poland with 3.4 billion liters. The Netherlands and Belgium complete the top five.

Greece produced 434 million liters of beer, ranking 12th in Europe.

The Netherlands is the top beer exporter, with 1.5 billion liters exported in 2024, although it recorded a 12% decrease compared to 2023. Germany and Belgium follow with 1.4 billion liters each. France is the largest beer importer in the EU.
