New platform to monitor vehicles in real time

A new platform, the Unified Vehicle Registry, will monitor every vehicle circulating in Greece in real time. The platform is connected to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the AADE, public and private Vehicle Inspection Centers (KTEO), insurance companies, the Auxiliary Capital and the Citizen Registry, gathering all data in a central infrastructure.
Until now, checks were carried out periodically. Now, the system will continuously check whether a vehicle is insured, whether road taxes have been paid, and whether it has passed KTEO. The image will be constantly updated without human intervention.
From the cross-checks carried out, 700,000 vehicles were found without a valid KTEO, 243,904 uninsured, and 113,382 that had not paid road taxes.
From March, those who have not complied will receive fines: 250 euros for uninsured motorcycles, 500 euros for uninsured cars, 1,000 euros for public use buses and trucks, and 400 euros for not carrying out KTEO. In case of delayed payment of fees over one year, the fine is equal to the fees due.
The process also provides for a second check. If the violation continues, the vehicle license and plates will be removed.
