Top 20 Sectors in the European Job Market

The job market in Europe is rapidly evolving, with technological innovation and changing needs transforming many sectors. According to job postings published on Indeed, administration, sales, and installation & maintenance are among the top five sectors in many countries.
Euronews Business examined the top 20 sectors based on job postings on the global recruitment platform Indeed, covering the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and the Netherlands, with an average for the period March-May 2025.
Most in-demand sectors:
- Administration: Significant demand in the United Kingdom (10.2%), the Netherlands (10.1%), France (7.6%), and Germany (6.4%).
- Sales: High demand in Germany (9.9%), France (9.2%), the Netherlands (8.5%), and the United Kingdom (6.7%).
- Installation & Maintenance: Significant demand in Germany (14.5%), the Netherlands (9%), France (6.9%), and the United Kingdom (5.7%).
- Food preparation and service: 10.4% in the United Kingdom, 7.8% in France, and 5.9% in the Netherlands.
- Software development: 3.9% on average across the four countries, with Germany leading (5%).
Other key sectors include cleaning and hygiene, retail, education and teaching, and nursing.
In France, there is high demand for positions in the healthcare sector, while in the Netherlands, nursing holds a significant position (8.3%).
Pawel Adrjan of Indeed predicts that artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, green energy, and biotechnology will create new, high-paying jobs in the coming years.
