Power Grid on the Brink Due to Heatwave – Planned Power Cuts?

The Spokesperson for the Transmission System Operator, Chara Kousiappa, described the current days as 'difficult' due to the prolonged heatwave. The power grid is at a critical point.
Speaking on State Radio, Ms. Kousiappa called on the public to be frugal in their use of electrical appliances between 18:00 and 21:00. If necessary, short power cuts will be made to ensure the network's stability.
Today, the maximum conventional production capacity is around 1,122 MW, while demand is expected to reach 1,200 MW. Renewable Energy Sources cover more than half of the demand. Yesterday, they channeled 659 MW into the grid.
There is also an increase in demand during the evening hours. Yesterday there was a conventional need of 929 MW, while today it is estimated to reach 1,000 MW.
