Nationwide Strike on September 11th for Cost of Living Allowance (ATA)

Trade unions are proceeding with a nationwide strike on September 11th for the Automatic Cost of Living Adjustment (ATA), following a pan-union conference at PEO headquarters. The decision includes a three-hour work stoppage (11 am-2 pm) and regional rallies, with a central rally outside the Ministry of Finance in Nicosia at 12 noon.
PEO General Secretary, Sotiroula Charalambous, stated that the trade union movement is ready to fight for the ATA, while SEK General Secretary, Andreas Matsas, called for unity. The unions denounce the “absolute alignment” of the government and employers and warn of escalating measures if there is no resolution.
All sectors of the economy will be affected, including construction, hospitality, public, semi-public, education, hospitals, ports, public transport, and media. Measures have been taken for essential services and security personnel.
