Persianis: Limited Savings from Scaled ATA in the Public Sector

Significant savings from implementing a scaled ATA (Automatic Cost of Living Adjustment) in the public sector are not expected, according to statements by the President of the Fiscal Council, Michalis Persianis, on the Alpha Enimerosi program.

Mr. Persianis stated that internal analyses were conducted regarding the scaled ATA, which theoretically prevents the worsening of inequality and compensates basic needs to a greater extent.

However, the results of the analyses showed that no substantial savings arise for the public sector. "We ran eight scenarios and no significant savings emerged," he stated. Even in the most extreme scenario, where the distribution is 100% for the first €15,000 and zero for the last tier, the savings amount to just over 5 million euros.

Commenting on the prospect of dialogue, Mr. Persianis expressed the view that the discussion has turned into a partisan confrontation, where arguments have lost their meaning. He believes that the final decision on the ATA will be judged politically, and not based on objective data and analyses.
