Tesla Sales Decline in Europe in May

Tesla's sales in Europe declined in May, despite the growth of the electric car market. According to industry data, Tesla's sales decreased by 40.2% in May, in contrast to the 25% increase in overall electric vehicle sales in Europe.
ACEA, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association, reported that Tesla's market share fell to 1.1% from 2% last year. In the first five months of 2025, Tesla's sales decreased by 45.2% compared to the same period last year.
The decline in demand is attributed to increasing competition, Tesla's aging fleet, and potentially consumer reaction to Elon Musk's political stances. ACEA's head, Sigrid de Vries, stated that the market share of electric vehicles is still far from expected, while the EU aims to stop sales of new internal combustion engine cars by 2035.
Battery electric cars accounted for 15.4% of total car sales in May, compared to 12.1% in the same month last year.
