The president of the Sheep and Goat Producers Group, Sotiris Kadis, reassured that the possible import of sheep and goats does not affect the status of Halloumi PDO.

Speaking on 'Morning Itinerary', Mr. Kadis explained that the regulations allow the use of animals raised in Cyprus, even if they have been imported, as long as the milk is produced on the island.

He emphasized that local breeds, such as the Cyprus Machaira sheep, are ideal for the production of traditional halloumi due to the high fat content of their milk.
