The Chief Scientist of the Republic of Cyprus, Dimitris Skourides, promoted Cyprus as a gateway to Europe in the fields of research and innovation during a visit to Australia in early September.

Two Australian technology companies expressed interest in operating in Cyprus in the coming months. Mr. Skourides, accompanied by High Commissioner Antonis Sammoutis, held meetings with the Chief Scientist of Australia, Professor Tony Haymet, and representatives of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

Potential collaborations in the areas of climate change, sustainability, oceanography, robotics, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies were discussed. Mr. Skourides also participated in a round table discussion at the 14th World Chambers Congress in Melbourne.

At a diaspora event, in the presence of the Minister of Innovation and SMEs of South Australia, Andrea Michaels, Mr. Skourides presented Cyprus' R&D ecosystem.

Giorgos Georgiou, President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Australia, arranged meetings with Australian technology companies, positioning Cyprus as a gateway to Europe.
