Southwest Airlines Ends Free Extra Seats for Plus-Size Passengers

Southwest Airlines is changing its policy and will require passengers who need extra space to pay for a second seat in advance. The change will take effect on January 27.
Previously, passengers had the option to purchase a second seat and receive a refund if the flight was not full, or to request a free extra seat at the airport. Under the new policy, the free extra seat is eliminated.
Jason Vaughn, a travel agent, said the change will negatively impact the experience of all travelers. Southwest faces financial pressures and investor pressure to increase revenue.
