Stournaras: "Triple Dividend" from Adapting to Climate Change

The Governor of the Bank of Greece (ΤτΕ), Yannis Stournaras, referred to the "triple dividend" from addressing the climate crisis, during his speech at the 1st Hellenic-German Sustainability Forum.
Mr. Stournaras emphasized that adaptation to climate change is crucial for managing the environmental, social, and economic impacts of the climate crisis.
According to him, the "triple dividend" includes:
- Reduction of future losses by limiting the impact of extreme weather events.
- Strengthening economic activity by creating jobs and promoting innovation.
- Social and environmental benefits, such as enhancing biodiversity and improving public health.
The head of the ΤτΕ cited a study by the World Resources Institute, according to which for every dollar invested in climate adaptation, the benefit over a decade is ten dollars.
