US-EU Agreement: Concerns and Hopes of Greek Exporters

The agreement between the EU and the US to impose 15% tariffs on European products, excluding steel and aluminum, is causing mixed feelings among Greek exporters. While the possibility of higher tariffs (30%) threatened by Trump has been avoided and uncertainty is lifted, there is now a permanent burden.

The President of the Panhellenic Exporters Association, Alkiviadis Kalampokis, acknowledges the burdens but considers 15% better than 30%. He sees a new chapter in Greek-US trade relations and calls for support from the State.

The President of SEVGAP, Christos Apostolopoulos, expresses concern about the impact on prices and the potential shift of producers to other markets, especially for feta cheese. Already, with the 10% tariffs in place since spring, export growth has slowed down.

The President of PEMETE, Kostas Zookas, is relieved that 30% was avoided but is concerned about the ability to absorb price increases due to the dollar's slide. He considers the end of uncertainty a positive development.

Both Mr. Apostolopoulos and Mr. Kalampokis are asking for the exemption of Greek food products, especially feta cheese, from tariffs, as Trump and Von der Leyen have left this possibility open.
