Tesla Faces Backlash in Turkey Over Tax Hikes â Millions in Refunds?

A controversy has erupted in Turkey involving Tesla, following complaints about an increase in the special consumption tax (ĂTV) on cars. Many customers who completed their purchases before the change on July 24, 2025, are being asked to pay additional money.
This move sparked reactions, as Turkish law prohibits price changes after payment. The Ministry of Commerce imposed fines that may exceed 1 million euros. An initial court decision ruled in favor of a consumer, ordering a refund of approximately 5,000 euros.
If refunds are extended, the total amount could exceed 6.5 million euros. The case has also taken on a political dimension, with criticism of the sudden tax increase.
