Airlines are employing complex pricing techniques to maximize profits. A recent practice implemented by major American airlines, including American, Delta, and United, has sparked controversy in the travel community.

Reports indicate that airlines were charging higher prices for solo travelers compared to bookings for two people on the same routes. This practice was deemed unfair to single travelers, resulting in strong criticism.

While Delta has reportedly ceased this practice, American and United continue to implement it. Research showed that solo travelers traveling during the week may pay higher fares compared to those traveling on weekends or in groups.

American applies this technique more aggressively, charging at least 5% more to solo travelers on 57% of its routes, compared to 8% of United's routes. Travel blogs have criticized this practice, with some calling for government intervention.

Although Delta and United have reportedly withdrawn this strategy, they increased prices for multi-passenger bookings to match their individual prices.
