The President of the Association of Cyprus Travel Agents (ACTTA), Haris Papacharalambous, warned of serious impacts on tourism if the tense situation in the region continues and Cyprus remains on the map of risky destinations.

Mr. Papacharalambous stressed the need to avoid panic and be restrained in statements. He mentioned that Cyprus, along with other countries in the region, has been affected by booking cancellations for the coming days and weeks, while cancellations for the summer are fewer.

He noted that Western European countries, such as Spain and Portugal, are experiencing significant increases in bookings, in contrast to Eastern Mediterranean countries.

Asked about the impact of reduced flights from the Middle East, Mr. Papacharalambous replied that it would not particularly affect Cypriot tourism, as 90% of tourists come from Europe and the United Kingdom. He also mentioned that some Gulf airlines have already announced limited flight programs.

Mr. Papacharalambous expressed the belief that the tourism industry will recover quickly once the situation calms down. He urged everyone to be substantive and avoid exaggeration.
