Turkey is proceeding with the construction of a new Floating Production Unit (FPU) with the aim of quadrupling the daily natural gas production from the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea. According to the plan, production is expected to reach 40 million cubic meters per day by mid-2028.

According to a report by TRT Haber, the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources announced an agreement with a Chinese company for the supply of the new platform. The contract covers engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning activities, with the platform's construction already underway in China.

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, pointed out that the new platform will increase daily production to 40 million cubic meters. He clarified that the current daily production from the Sakarya Gas Field is 9.5 million cubic meters. With the commissioning of the 'Osman Gazi' platform in mid-2026, production will reach 20 million cubic meters.

The new floating platform will be 273 meters long, 54 meters wide, and will be able to accommodate 150 personnel. It will be permanently anchored approximately 180 kilometers from the coast, at a depth of 2,200 meters.
