Major Greek banks, including Alpha Bank, Eurobank, National Bank of Greece, and Piraeus Bank, reported net profits of €2.4 billion for the first half of 2025, a 4% increase compared to the previous year.

With interest rate cuts from the ECB, banks aim to boost credit expansion to maintain profitability. Bank managements have upgraded their targets, anticipating new loans exceeding €13 billion in 2025.

S&P forecasts a 2.4% average GDP growth for Greece between 2024 and 2027, which will boost demand for corporate loans. The credit rating of banks is upgraded along with the public sector, allowing borrowing at lower interest rates.

According to the Bank of Greece (ΤτΕ), in April 2025, the growth rate of financing to non-financial corporations (ΜΧΕ) reached 17.2%, the highest level since 2009. Co-financing and guarantee programs, as well as RRF co-financing loans, support the provision of business credit.

Private sector deposits increased to €204.5 billion in June, the highest level since January 2011.
