The Cyprus Cheesemakers Association states that halloumi production remains manageable despite concerns about foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks and the culling of 13,000 animals.

The Association's Press Representative, Michalis Koullouros, stated that if the spread is limited to current levels, the situation will remain manageable. He stressed that the loss of animals affects halloumi production, as both sheep/goat and cow's milk are used.

Mr. Koullouros reassured consumers, assuring them that products produced in Cyprus are completely safe for consumption. He also emphasized the importance of everyone's contribution to limiting the spread of the disease and mentioned that the association members have taken strict biosecurity measures since December, following the detection of a case in the occupied territories.

Approximately 80% of milk production in Cyprus is intended for halloumi production. Cheesemakers are closely monitoring the situation and hope that there will be no further positive cases.
