Improved Power Situation, Reduced Probability of Cuts

The Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO) announced that the probability of controlled power cuts is significantly reduced for today, August 14, 2025. This comes after controlled outages that took place on August 12 and 13 due to high temperatures and failures in production units.

According to the TSO, electricity demand coverage is expected to be feasible between 18:30 and 22:00, due to the increase in the availability of production units by 16.7MW and the contribution of wind farms.

Christina Papadopoulou, spokesperson for the EAC, stated that the situation has improved due to the increased availability from production unit 3 at the Vasilikos station, with an additional 30MW. However, some failures in production units remain.

In the event of an unexpected failure or deviation in wind production, load shedding will begin with group 13. The EAC has posted the consumer load shedding groups on its website.

Ms. Papadopoulou appealed to consumers to reduce electricity consumption.
