Violanta: Witness Testimonies Reveal Foretold Disaster

Witness testimonies in the Violanta tragedy case reveal that the propane leak, the cause of the explosion, had been detected months before the accident on January 26, 2026. Despite warnings, the factory's management and ownership did not take the necessary safety measures.
Workers testified that they had noticed a smell of gas and had informed those in charge, but there was no substantial response. One worker reported being asked to say that the smell came from the sewers. Other employees testified about poor maintenance, problems with electrical wiring, and a lack of safety training and evacuation plans.
An uncertified plumber, who performed work at Violanta, testified that he had noticed the odor since November 2025 and had informed the owner, Konstantinos Tziortziotis. Also, a mechanical engineer who was called to check the propane network found a large gas leak.
The tragedy resulted in the deaths of five female workers. These revelations highlight serious omissions and shortcomings in compliance with safety regulations, leading to the foretold disaster.
