The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, referred to the positive results of the government's economic policy during a meeting of the Council of Ministers at the Presidential Palace, where the state budget for 2026 was discussed.

Mr. Christodoulides emphasized that the new budget is surplus-generating, characterized by stability and perspective, and has a strong social and developmental character. Increased spending is planned for development projects and social policy, with development expenditures recording a 4.7% increase, in addition to the 4% increase in the 2025 budget. Social benefits are further strengthened by 6.7%.

Particular importance was given to the continued downward trend of public debt, which is expected to decrease to 52.9% in 2026, from 73.6% in 2023.

The government prioritizes Education, Health, and Social Welfare, while proceeding with digital transformation and the green transition. According to forecasts, the growth rate in 2026 will be 3.1%, while unemployment will remain below 5%.

President Christodoulides described the results as indicative of the responsible economic policy pursued by the government.
