High Electricity Demand in Cyprus: Risk of Power Cuts
Share on:

Electricity demand in Cyprus is once again at a critical point, with the risk of rotational power cuts visible due to high temperatures. A demand record for 2025 was recorded on Monday, reaching 1190 Mw.

The Press Officer of the Cyprus Transmission System Operator, Chara Kousiappa, told REPORTER that the maximum available production capacity is at 1100 Mw, highlighting the marginal sufficiency and the risk of deficiency in case of production loss.

The hours of highest demand are between 18:00 and 21:00. Citizens are advised to save energy by avoiding the use of appliances such as washing machines and dryers during these hours.

The Civil Defense has also issued recommendations for the protection of citizens from high temperatures, calling on them to avoid unnecessary travel and heavy physical work in the sun.
