34 livestock farms with foot-and-mouth disease

Cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been confirmed in 34 livestock farms, of which 3 concern cows and 31 concern sheep and goats.

The representative of the Veterinary Services, Sotiria Georgiadou, stated that vaccinations are continuing throughout Cyprus, with more than 79 thousand doses for cattle and approximately 159 thousand doses for sheep and goats having been distributed so far.

Regarding the culling, Ms. Georgiadou said that the Veterinary Services tried to stop the culling, but the European Commission was clear that the relevant European directive does not allow deviations. The effort continues at the highest level.
