Significant disruption is affecting livestock farmers across Cyprus, particularly in the Larnaca district, following the detection of foot-and-mouth disease cases.

Livestock farmers in Ormideia, according to a reader of OmegaLive, have taken their own measures to protect their animals. With the approval and financial assistance of the local leadership, they have closed roads to livestock areas since Saturday, leaving only one central entrance where disinfections are carried out.

The livestock farmers are asking for understanding from citizens who use these roads, emphasizing that the measures are being taken to protect their livelihoods.

Oroklini and Livadia, where the first cases were detected, are on alert, and other areas of the Larnaca district are also taking measures.

The Veterinary Services have placed the entire Cyprus under quarantine and have banned the movement of animals and animal feed.
