Foot and Mouth Disease: Critical Phase and Prevention Measures

The threat of foot and mouth disease remains, despite the completion of mass culls in infected units. Prevention is key, with strict measures and intensive controls throughout the country.

The focus is on shielding pig farming units with vaccinations to prevent a new outbreak. Veterinary Services emphasize the crucial importance of producer responsibility, with emphasis on entry control, disinfection and restriction of movement.

Since February 19, culls have been completed in 50 units in Larnaca and Nicosia, with over 30,000 animals culled. No new cases have been reported, but the next period is critical. In Pergamos, the suspension of operations has been lifted.
