An unexpected incident occurred during the Epiphany ceremony in Ayia Napa when the golden cross thrown into the sea was not immediately found.

The Speaker of the House, Annita Demetriou, attended the ceremony and wished for "enlightenment of souls and redemption for our homeland." The Metropolitan of Constantia and Ammochostos, Vasileios, expressed the wish that the ceremony would soon take place in occupied Ammochostos as well.

Initially, over 30 people jumped into the sea to retrieve the cross, but it was lost in the seabed. Subsequently, a wooden cross was thrown, which was found. Eventually, the golden cross was located and handed over to the Metropolitan, who presented gifts to the participants.

Eight-year-old Panagiotis Denexeaneas, who participated in the retrieval, said he was happy and wished freedom and a happy year to Cyprus.

The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zannettou, wished for the reunification of the homeland to take place in 2026 and for the Epiphany to be celebrated in the Metropolitan Municipality in 2027.
