An unexpected incident occurred during the throwing of the Holy Cross ceremony in Ayia Napa on Epiphany. According to reports, Metropolitan Vasilios initially threw a golden cross into the sea, but it was lost.

Subsequently, the throwing was repeated with a wooden cross. The mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannettos, stated that the golden cross was eventually found after a short time.

Despite the incident, the participation of the faithful was increased, with more than 30 citizens jumping into the water to catch the cross, including two eight-year-old children and a woman.
