Akrotiri: Sirens to Sound Regularly as a Precautionary Measure

An alert was triggered in Akrotiri on Thursday (05/03), ending a few minutes later. The Minister of Justice, Konstantinos Fytiris, stated that the sirens will sound regularly as long as the conflict in the Middle East continues, even if they cause concern.
According to the OMEGA Channel correspondent in Limassol, Evangelos Evangelou, Mr. Fytiris emphasized that this tactic aims to provide early warning to residents, even in the event of a false alarm. The Minister of Justice assured that Cyprus remains one of the safest countries in the Middle East, due to the equipment surrounding it.
Mr. Fytiris met with the Mayor of Kourion, Pantelis Georgiou, the Deputy Mayor of Akrotiri, Giorgos Konstantinou, the District Officer of the British Bases, Giorgos Kiteos, and the Assistant Police Director, Melina Papagrigoriou. He emphasized the readiness of the Ministry of Justice to assist in security matters in cooperation with the British Bases.
The Mayor of Kourion, Pantelis Georgiou, stated that during the meeting with the British Minister of Defense, John Healey, the issue of equal treatment of the citizens of the area was raised. He also assured that the operational readiness of the Bases guarantees the safety of the area and the Republic of Cyprus.
