Traffic Camera Changes: New Fine Scale Implementation Date

Modifications to the photo-monitoring system are being implemented in the near future, restructuring the amount of out-of-court fines according to the severity of the violation.

The amendment provides for the issuance of an out-of-court fine of €85, down from the current €300, for violating stopping on a pedestrian crossing. As stated by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Marinos Mousiouttas, a large percentage of the fines (60-70%) relate to violations of the third line, which are considered particularly dangerous, while 20% concern violations of the first line.

The new fine scale is as follows: €25 for violation of the first line, €85 for violation of the second line (pedestrian crossing), and €300 for violation of the third line. Mr. Mousiouttas noted that the difference between €25 and €300 was deemed excessive.

The pilot implementation of the new regulation is expected to begin in late November, with the aim of fully implementing the new model in all photo-monitoring systems by the first quarter of 2026.
