The Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFMR) and the Department of Environment acted swiftly regarding an outdoor event in Peyeia, according to statements by the Director of DFMR, Marina Argyrou, to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA). The action followed assessments by the Audit Office.

The two departments took measures to limit potential impacts, ensuring that sea turtle nesting on the beach was not affected. The Department of Environment convened a meeting with involved parties to determine procedures for similar cases.

On August 21, 2025, the Department of Environment sent a letter to the Akamas Municipality to terminate the construction of the platform. Due to the continuation of preparations, the departments took preventive measures to limit lighting towards Toxeftra beach.

Protective covers were required on the platform, and the Akamas Municipality responded promptly. An on-site inspection during the event showed that the lighting was limited. A check in Toxeftra the next day showed no problems with the nests.

Ms. Argyrou stressed that timely notification of events is necessary so that there is time for proper zoning and avoidance of problems.
