Patients to be Immediately Moved from Unsuitable Buildings at Athalassa Hospital

Following an order from the Minister of Health, approximately 70 patients will be immediately moved from the building facilities of Athalassa Hospital, which were deemed unsuitable based on a structural study. The decision was made at a meeting with OKYpY.
Some patients will be transferred to safer areas within the hospital, while others will be moved to different facilities. Simultaneously, procedures are being initiated to implement Phase B of the construction of the new Athalassa Hospital.
Charalambos Charilaou, Press Representative of OKYpY, assured that there is no safety issue for patients and staff. Andreas Andreou, President of the Mental Health Nurses Branch of PASYDY, emphasized the need for buildings to meet specific safety criteria.
Staff unions had expressed concerns about safety after the study's findings. Questions are being raised as to whether a structural study was conducted in 2017 when two wards were renovated with the intervention of the then President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis.
The second phase of the project is expected to create new buildings to meet the hospital's needs.
