Elevators Installed in Strovolos Refugee Housing: €90,000 per Building

The Ministry of Interior has installed elevators in six refugee apartment buildings in Strovolos, under the "κτίΖΩ" program, with a budget of €90,000 per building.
The "κτίΖΩ" program, launched in 2023, aims to improve refugee housing by categorizing them according to their condition. It includes provisions for the installation of elevators, an issue that has concerned Parliament due to elderly residents and people with mobility issues.
The Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, in response to a question from MP Nikos Kettirou, stated that elevators have been completed and are operational in 6 of the 9 apartment buildings in the Kokkines government housing estate in Nicosia. Specifically, on Milias 30, Afaneias 14, Kantaras 159, Pigis 6, and Vatylis 5 streets.
Mr. Ioannou explained that the delay between installation and operation is due to safety checks by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (ΑΗΚ) and an independent inspection body. Work on the remaining 3 elevators is in progress.
The "κτίΖΩ" plan addresses issues of static and seismic adequacy, ensuring the safety and improvement of living conditions for residents, mainly elderly refugees.
