Vets React to Ban on Cancer Drugs for Animals in Cyprus

The Pancyprian Veterinary Association has expressed strong opposition to the decision by the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) to ban the distribution of cancer drugs for animals, citing concerns about shortages.

In a statement, the Association emphasized that the ban was implemented immediately, leaving animals with cancer without necessary treatment. The Association argued that veterinarians have the right to prescribe human drugs when veterinary preparations are not available, in accordance with European law.

The Pancyprian Veterinary Association called on the HIO, the Ministry of Health, and the Pharmaceutical Services to reconsider their decision and ensure the needs of animal patients are met, without depriving human cancer patients of access to treatment.
