Environment Department Responds to Akamas Party Allegations

The Departments of Environment and Fisheries and Marine Research (TAΘΕ) have responded to the Audit Office regarding the outdoor event in Agios Georgios Pegeias. In a joint statement, the Departments state that they took all necessary preventive measures to avert any threat to the protected Toxeftra beach, due to the intense lighting that could affect nesting.
The Departments emphasize that there was no negligence or delay in their actions and express regret for the way the issue was presented by the Audit Office, even before receiving official information about the actions taken.
The Audit Office had stated that the attempt to link the private party with the annual Carob Festival creates deliberate misinformation and that the placement of a platform and sound installations was done without the necessary permits. It also expressed concern that the competent authorities, knowing in advance about the party, did not take immediate measures to prevent it.
The Audit Office indicated that there are suspicions of negligence on the part of state officials and has sent a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.
